BBfP-Denver Program Participants to travel to Northern Ireland in March!
Help Support Their Fundraising Efforts Feb 23 and March 5
February 23, 2007

The Building Bridges for Peace - Denver (BBfP-Denver) program began this month with 24 students from East and South High Schools. Of the 24 students in the program, 17 are traveling to Northern Ireland next month.

To raise awareness of their commitment to peacemaking, and to finance the trip, students are implementing a fundraising program called the Link Campaign. They are asking people to send in paper links to create a chain that will ‘link’ them the 4,374 miles to Belfast, Northern Ireland. Each link is 6 inches long and students are asking for a minimum donation of $1 per link. “Our goal is to have one completed chain per student attending the trip,” says East High School teacher Celeste Archer. Those buying links to the chain are asked to inscribe a message of peace and hope on each of the links. The completed chains will be displayed at Denver government buildings and will be delivered by the students to community leaders in Northern Ireland.

To support the program, join the students and SCG staff for a silent auction and dinner hosted by Strings restaurant (1700 Humboldt Street, Denver), on Friday, February 23. Strings will donate 10% of food and non-alcoholic beverage sales between 5:00 and 10:00 PM to the program. The silent auction is open from 6:00 – 9:00 PM and there is no cover charge (Dinner reservations are recommended, please contact Strings directly at 303.831.7310).

On March 5th, five of the restaurants owned by Little Pub Company will donate 25% of food and non-alcoholic beverage sales to the cause. Restaurants participating are Spot Bar & Grill (Bayaud & Penn); Irish Hound (6th & St. Paul); Wymanns (13th& Vine); The Elm and Senor Rita’s (both at Colfax and Elm St). Program students will be at the restaurants to provide information on the program and sell links for the Link Campaign.

For more information about the Link Fundraising Campaign or to purchase a link, contact Celeste Archer, East High School teacher, archerclove@qwest.net, 303-399-0479. For more information about the BBfP-Denver program, contact Erin Breeze, program director, erin@s-c-g.org, 303.691.2393.
