Seeking Common Ground’s Programs

While communities worldwide speak to their desire for peace, they often lack the tools and knowledge to create and sustain peaceful relationships — the foundation for equitable, just, and inclusive societies. SCG programs were designed in response to the lack of opportunities, both in the United States and around the world, for individuals to acquire the skills to communicate, cooperate and cohabitate with the ‘other.’

Bringing people together and teaching them to communicate is the first step in equipping them with the skills to become effective agents of change.  All of SCG’s programs are based on the following core building blocks: Perspective, Identity, Integration, Socialization, Gender Lens, Communication, Leadership Development, Ongoing Follow-up Programming, and Near-peer Mentoring. Through a variety of experiential and interactive workshops, program participants acquire concrete skills that enable them to communicate through conflict, transform antagonistic relationships, become empathetic and inclusive leaders, and recognize within themselves the capacity to effect change.  Participants have the opportunity to meet the ‘other’ in an environment that provides a forum for them to have voice, learn how to listen, challenge stereotypes, and explore commonalities while more fully understanding differences.
