Alumni in Action: Developing a Global Network of Cross-community Changemakers

Alumni in Action was launched in the summer of 2009 and is designed to support past participants to reconnect with one another and with the organization, and to access resources and opportunities to further their leadership and peacebuilding skills.  The Alumni Programming is both an in-person and a virtual community; it hosts regional social gatherings and service projects, connects alumni to SCG program opportunities, and provides online resources for alumni to stay connected with one another. 

The first regional meet-up was held in November 2009 in Denver, and included leadership training, a service project, and time  to discuss the Alumni in Action program. More than 20 alumni participated, ranging in program years from 1996 through 2009, and coming from Chicago, Houston, New York, San Francisco, Vermont, Boulder, and Denver.

SCG’s online presence will be greatly enhanced during 2012. We are laying the foundation to offer all SCG alumni an online community to connect and continue their dialogue and cross-community work. Alumni will work together to support one another with additional training and seed funds for community service projects. Participants are equipped to transform their world by broadening their positive impact on their families, communities and the world at large.

Interns for Peace is another opportunity for alumni to continue developing their leadership and communication skills. Founded in 2000 by two BBfP alumni, Interns for Peace provides past SCG program participants the opportunity to gain skills in non-profit management, public speaking and writing, and program development and facilitation. The Interns for Peace speak locally and nationally to diverse institutions and organizations, and help develop, improve, and implement SCG programming.
